Could voting Conservative mean that Labour get in again?

The election results from 2006

Votes cast in Streatham constituency in 2006

The Liberal Democrats are the only party who can beat Labour in Streatham, Brixton, Balham and Clapham. Because of the way the voting system works, voting Conservative in the Streatham constituency will just help Labour.

Labour take our area for granted. That's why people here have been let down so often. At the moment there's a Labour MP for the Streatham constituency (which includes parts of Balham, Clapham, Brixton and Tulse Hill). The Liberal Democrats are in a strong second place and have a good chance of winning. That means only the Liberal Democrats are the rivals to Labour here. Backing Chris Nicholson and the Liberal Democrats will change things for the better. Voting Conservative won't change anything. Actually, voting Conservative will help Labour win again.

There's only one party who can beat Labour in Streatham, Clapham, and Brixton - and that's the Liberal Democrats.

Are the Conservatives really a wasted vote?

Yes. They Conservatives come third in election after election here. The Conservatives were third at the last General Election, in 2005. They also came 3rd in the Council elections in 2006. The Conservatives were 3rd in the GLA constituency election in 2008. And in the 2009 European Elections for Lambeth, the Conservatives were third about it. Of course some people will vote Conservative even if it means Gordon Brown getting in again. But will you?

There's only been one election in recent years where the Conservative candidate did better than third place in the Streatham constituency. That was the election for London Mayor when Boris Johnson and Ken Livingston were the candidates. Oddly enough that's the election that you'll find both Conservative and Labour parties talk about on their leaflets!

And don't forget - the Conservatives don't even have any Councillors in Streatham constituency.
