Chris Nicholson asks Gordon Brown to include representation of African Union at G20 Summit

1.08.08pm GMT Mon 19th Jan 2009

Chris Nicholson has signed a petition calling for Gordon Brown to ensure African interests are represented at the upcoming G20 summit by inviting the African Union.

The G20 will gather in London on the 2nd of April. It is made up of leaders of the 20 biggest economies in the world. In November 2008, the G20 acknowledged that "emerging and developing economies should have greater voice and representation" in international financial institutions.

Brown is the Chair of the upcoming Summit and can give African institutions the opportunity to make their voices heard by inviting groups like the AU and African Development Bank.

The G20 will gather with the aim of reforming global financial systems. For reforms to help the world's poorest, Africans must gain a greater stake in the system, says ONE, an organisation which fights against extreme poverty and preventable disease.
